How to be in a Fandom: Part 3

Hi everyone, and today I'm going to try something new for this blog. Something humorous, which can help you find out something crucial to your identity. How to tell if you are in a fandom, and what to do now that you are part of the Fandom. But firstly, a general reminder from the last post and for all those who just grabbed this article now: what is a Fandom? According to Wikipedia, it is: A fandom is a subculture composed of fans characterized by a feeling of empathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest. Fans typically are interested in even minor details of the objects of their fandom and spend a significant portion of their time and energy involved with their interest, often as a part of a social network with particular practices, differentiating fandom-affiliated people from those with only a casual interest.  A fandom can grow around any area of human interest or activity. The subject of fan interest can be narrowly defined, focused on something like ...

ANNOUNCEMENT

Hi everyone! I hope everyone is doing ok! The reason why I made this post is that I have an announcement to make.  I am shifting my content, subject wise. Oh, don't worry, still expect book reviews and writing tips. Those are here to stay. What I mean is that I won't be doing those things only now. I'll also be posting a lot more on my passion Harry Potter, including merch posts, reviews on the movies etc etc. What you should also expect is me ranting more about all types of art, encouragements for artists and Fandoms in general.  I hope that you will all support me in my journey! Thanks, and have a pleasant day!

An Introduction to Artistic Skills

Hi everyone! This is a post which I actually practice in every day life and that I never shut up about in real life. I won't give away what it's about yet beyond the title, but here's a little introduction. If you are like me, you have a burning passion inside your heart. One that practically calls you towards the arts. If you ignore it, you feel sad and irritated. Now, I know most of you here are asking: but what exactly constitutes as an art? How do I know whether I have the skill? And surely the most dreaded, I'm not artistic in any way. First of all, there are multiple categories of art. These are: Visual Arts. When stating the word ART, this is what normally comes to mind. Such examples include painting, drawing, ceramics, photography and sculpture.  Literary Arts. This is the idea of printed storytelling, of which there are three types: prose (the story), poetry and drama (a play). This is the manipulation of words to create a new world. Performing Arts. These ar...

Book Review: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Image
Hi everyone and today I shall be reviewing the second in the esteemed book series of Harry Potter: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.  As you already know from both my School for Good and Evil reviews and my recent Harry Potter book review, the Categories assessed shall be Pacing, Language, Characters and Plot. Each category will have 10 points and I will be ranking the book over 40 points. I will be giving my own opinion on each of the categories.  DISCLAIMER: SPOILERS ALERT IN THE REVIEW! DON'T READ UNLESS YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK A little info on the book before proceeding. It was first published in 1998, and I currently own the second edition of the book in question. Not much else can be said about it.  So without further ado, let's get started! PLOT:  Seems like a normal year at Hogwarts that year. Until a mysterious house elf named Dobby comes to Harry warning him not to come to Hogwarts, for there is grave danger ahead. And seems like he was right, b...

Book Review: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Image
Hi everyone and today I shall be reviewing the first in the esteemed book series of Harry Potter: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone . Since this is the proper (because it is British and that is what it is called in Britain) name of the book, I will be referring to it as such, not Sorcerer's Stone. As you already know from my School for Good and Evil reviews, the Categories assessed shall be Pacing, Language, Characters and Plot. It was first published in 1997, written by J.K Rowling and was later made into a film in 2001 (ironically I have the version of when the film came out: the Bloomsbury 2001 edition). Now, I have two points to address before I get started with the review. Firstly, I will not be c...

Book Review: The School for Good and Evil: A World Without Princes

Image
Hi everyone and today I shall be reviewing the second in the esteemed book series: The School for Good and Evil, which has a subtitle: A World Without Princes. As you already know, the Categories assessed shall be Pacing, Language, Characters and Plot. Each category will have 10 points and I will be ranking the book over 40 points. I will be giving my own opinion on each of the categories.  DISCLAIMER: SPOILERS ALERT IN THE REVIEW! DON'T READ UNLESS YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK Okay, so a bit of information on the book. It was first published in 2014 (in fact I have the 2014 paperback version), it was written by American author Soman Chainani and is the second in the lineup. Now that we left our beloved heroes in Gavaldon, will the journey satisfy the fact that the end was not written or did this fairytale really need to close? Now, let's get started! PLOT:  We are transported back to the world of Gavaldon. But what is it about the plot that makes us want to revisit the charac...

Representation II: Body Image in Literature

Hi everyone, it's me again! I will be continuing my Representation in Literature series, this time touching on the topic of Body Image. As I have been saying in all my posts regarding these sensitive posts, I am not trying to step on any toes and what I am solely trying to do is help writers to be more inclusive in their writing in order to shed some light on what issues are in the world and reflect it in their fictional stories. Anyway, let's get started! As stated in my other post, there are four rules to representing a certain demographic well.  As you may have recalled from the title, today we shall be focusing on how to represent those individuals who have Body Image issues. Your poem or story has a world of untapped potential, so why make all your characters the same when you can make complex characters that people of all countries can relate to? Just like humans, all characters should have qualities that in a combination make them all unique in their own way. These can...

Top 10 Heroines

Hi everyone, it's me again! Sorry for the delay, however I needed a breather. Now I'm back and stronger than ever, so don't worry.  Today I will be doing my Top 10 series, starting with Heroines! Now for characters to be eligible for this list, they must be a character in a book (anyone looking for their favourite characters from a TV series, sorry. Believe me, it's harder not including my favourite heroines from my favourite TV shows, such as Tina from Bob's Burgers or Luz from The Owl House), they must be female (all types of female don't worry), and they must be aligned with the good side. They don't have to be the main character, but they have to be featured often in the book, so side characters won't count, sorry.  Spoilers may be included and this is purely my opinion. Feel free to make your own top 10s in the comments. Anyway let's get started! 10) Laurel from the Wings series.  I personally put her at number 10 because while I do like her ...

Book Review: The School for Good and Evil

Image
Hi everyone and today I shall be reviewing the first in an esteemed book series: The School for Good and Evil.  I know there are many of you who are huge fans of this franchise and now here I am to give my two cents about it. The Categories assessed shall be Pacing, Language, Characters and Plot. It was first published in 2013 (in fact I have the 2013 paperback version), it was written by American author Soman Chainani and it was recently picked up for a Netflix adaptation. In my personal opinion, having read 2 of the books so far (will be reviewing all of the books in the series as time goes along, at intervals), I think it would work better as an animated series, preferably animated in the storybook style t...

An In-Depth Analysis of the Horror Genre

Hi everyone! Today I will be starting my In-Depth Analysis of certain genres series. In this series I shall be analysing the type of language used, common tropes in this genre, plot progression and how the genre meshes well with other genres, for each genre. Consider this a late Halloween treat! 😊 A GENERAL INTRODUCTION: Ever liked the feeling when your eyes scan a page and then jump off whatever you are sitting on in fear? Does it give you a thrill to be terrified of what is written on the paper? Then reading horror books is right up your alley. There is variety in what horror fiction you can read, especially nowadays, however they all follow a special formula that I will explaining in further detail in this post. There are also special techniques in order to write effective "jump out of your wits" stories, mainly the language and certain tropes used. Finally I shall be examining on how the genre compares to and mixes together with other genres. Enjoy! LANGUAGE USED: All s...

Representation I : Anxiety and Depression in Literature

Hi everyone! Today I will start one of my Writing Tips series and it's a topic that is a hot potato yet one that every writer has to eventually face: Representation of Certain Groups in Literature. As you may all know, there is a certain demand for people not part of the dominant culture to be represented and this includes all the Artistic subjects, including Literature. But it is not a question of doing it. It is a question of doing it correctly. How does one come about this, you may all be asking? This is what this series is going to unravel, tackling one group at a time each week. After all, as being proven in recent times, representation does matter! Keep in mind that I am writing for a general audience and I do not mean to offend anyone who is reading this and is part of that certain demographic. As you may have recalled from the title, today we shall be focusing on how to represent those individuals who have Anxiety or/and Depression. Your poem or story has a world of untap...

Introduction to My Blog: Framona's Friday Fiascos

Image
Hey there! I am Framona the Miraculer and I am an aspiring author. I have wanted to express my knowledge and opinions on all things having to do with writing and books for quite a while now, which is the reason why I have created this blog. This blog is aimed at the Writing Community and all those who wish to enter the realm of writing. There is a saying that the pen is mightier than the sword and this is certainly true in this case. Features will include tips for both budding and experienced writers to develop all factors of their books, book reviews and fun articles revolving around the power of the written word.  When I'm not writing, I will either be studying, playing my favourite sport in the world (badminton), scrolling Twitter, watching videos on YouTube, just being a Lego aficionado, singing, watching Food Network (usually Guy's Grocery Games) or just hanging out with friends. I am also a fan of Animated Media, from CGI films such as Zootopia and 2D films like Robin H...
